Keys to understand its impact on SAP Basis
Infrastructure management and IT support is constantly evolving, and with it, the functions and strategies of SAP Basis. The arrival of RISE with SAP marks a turning point in infrastructure management and technical support, redefining responsibilities and opening up new opportunities in an increasingly digitised environment.
At Vanture ESS, always at the forefront of digital transformation, together with AUSAPE, the Spanish SAP Users Association, we held a webinar to analyse the impact of RISE with SAP in the world of SAP Basis. A meeting that allowed participants to understand how this new solution is revolutionising IT operations and how its implementation affects the distribution of tasks in their business.
A space for knowledge, innovation and strategy
The event began with the presentation of Vanture ESS by José Luis González, our Sales Director. Afterwards, José Antonio Luna, SAP Systems Manager, took the floor to explain the situation of the SAP Basis world with this implementation.
In a concise way, José Antonio Luna explained that RISE with SAP is a comprehensive managed infrastructure solution that provides a database and managed services. In this way, it allows you to offer your business:
·A single SLA from start to finish, covering from the infrastructure to the application layer.
·An end-to-end reference architecture and continuous innovation cycles with regular updates.
·A flexible subscription model and enhanced security applied throughout the process.
·A team of SAP experts in charge of operations throughout the subscription.
But what does RISE with SAP really cover (and what does not)?
In terms of roles and responsibilities, José Antonio Luna explained that RISE with SAP is mainly responsible for infrastructure management, including provisioning, maintenance and backups, as well as standard technical support. It also ensures data security, encryption and business continuity.
However, there are areas that remain outside RISE‘s scope, such as business parameterisations, ABAP tuning and transport flows. Integrations with external systems such as SSFF, Ariba and BTP also remain under the responsibility of the internal team, as well as business process monitoring and performance analysis.
Impact on SAP Basis teams
With this new reality, the webinar made it possible to analyse which competencies are affected in SAP Basis teams:
·Skills to be reduced or eliminated: OS management, database administration, script management, system checklist and filesystem extension.
·Competencies retained: ALE management, RFC management, pre- and post-copy tasks, and client management.
·New or more relevant competencies: Incident management with SAP, SAP request management, BTP and SDI integrations, among others.
Furthermore, the importance of adopting best practices in this new scenario was highlighted: detailed planning, automation, use of tools, and training and collaboration with specialised partners.
Keys to a successful transition
Implementing RISE with SAP involves a reconfiguration of equipment and a new way of working. RISE relieves work on infrastructure-related tasks, but not on the operating system.
Therefore, in order to obtain a good service and squeeze its full potential, an active and fluid communication with SAP must be maintained. Letting SAP Basis focus on performing advanced integration and analysis tasks.
To facilitate the transition, the following key recommendations were highlighted:
·Evaluate Basis tasks and responsibilities to align them with RISE.
·Identify gaps in the team’s competencies and plan specific pre-transformation training.
·Consider hiring a strategic partner to cover areas not managed by SAP.
The webinar concluded with a question and answer session, in which José Antonio Luna and José Luis González answered questions and went deeper into the most important aspects of this new solution.
A big step towards digital transformation
It was concluded that RISE with SAP not only optimises the IT infrastructure, but also redefines the role of SAP Basis teams, orienting them towards integration and advanced analytics.
Innovation is on its way and its full potential must be realised through adaptation, continuous training and collaboration with SAP. On this path to digitalisation, RISE with SAP is a strategic partner to drive the future of your company’s business technology.
